WebGrader Pronunciation Demonstration

Welcome to SRI's Speech Technology and Research Laboratory (STAR)

This demonstration lets you say sentences in french. The system will grade your pronunciation, and will even highligth the particular problems you might have.

To do this, the system integrates different technologies: speech recognition, intelligent agents and an original scoring pronunciation method.

If you are unable to reach the following phone number, check out the VIDEO

How to Start the Demonstration

You must have a browser that supports Java, and access to a telephone with which you can call +1 (650) 328 5319 in the United States.

About the technology

Speech Recognition

The demonstration uses the Nuance Speech Recognition Toolkit, developed by Nuance and SRI STAR Lab. It is a general purpose speech recognition toolkit that can be used to create programs with a speech interface without having to work on the actual recognition. For more information, contact Leo Neumeyer or Fuliang Weng.

Pronunciation Scoring

For more information, contact Leo Neumeyer or Horacio Franco.

Agent Architecture

All these components are realized as software agents that exist and function independently of each other, and possibly on different computers on the Internet. This architecture is called the Open Agent Architecture and is developed by SRI's Artificial Intelligence Center. In this demonstration, the agents are written in C, Java and Prolog. For more information, contact Adam Cheyer.

Acknowledgments

The Web demonstration was put together by Mehdi Charafeddine and Luc Julia with much help from Horacio Franco
