Voice-Interactive Language Instruction and Evaluation

SRI has applied DECIPHER technology to teaching and testing language skills. SRI's systems permit students to respond by speaking. The Voice Interactive Language Instruction (VILI) system presents scenarios to students and trains them in speaking, listening, and reading in English or Spanish. The Voice Interactive Reading Trainer (VIRT) system provides computer-supervised reading practice and a comprehension assessment. The Autograder system automatically grades the prononunciation of spoken phrases in a way that correlates closely with ratings by human experts.
