Leonardo Neumeyer was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1962. He received the Engineer degree in Electronics from the University of Buenos Aires, in 1988, and Master of Engineering from Carleton University , Ottawa, Canada, in 1990. From 1991 to 1992 he worked on the development of low bit rate speech coding systems for mobile communications at Novatel in Calgary, Canada. Leonardo joined the Speech Technology and Research Laboratory at SRI International in 1992. His activities at SRI have included applied research in speech recognition and automatic scoring of pronunciation for language learning, and integrating speech recognition into network environments. He has published more than twenty research papers and has filed three patents. As project manager, Leonardo has planned, staffed, and supervised numerous engineering efforts. Leonardo is currently a Sr. Research Engineer leading the development of advanced speech technologies for language learning. He is fluent in English and Spanish.
